At the time, trading up to draft Love at the expense of weapons for a potential contending squad was sold as a move that would speed up a rebuild. Love would develop while sitting and be much more ready after Rodgers left. Has that really panned out? I’m not out on Love, but he still looks pretty much like a rookie (understandably). Moreover, there’s not enough talent around him to properly evaluate him so 4 years after drafting him we still won’t know if he’s the guy or not.

It’s not that, it’s more that we haven’t really seen the pros that drafting a QB early and having them sit for 3 years was supposed to have. If those 3 years were supposed to make him look super polished, it hasn’t shown yet.

The idea was that drafting a QB earlier would help jump start the timeline, but there hasn’t really been much evidence of that. If we had drafted a QB last off-season, would we really be that much behind where we are now?
