I understand AI is a touchy subject among photographers. I’ve heared say AI revolutionaizes photography, a preeminant technology, and from soap boxes hail it as the greatest invention since the first digital sensor hit the market.
I’ve heard others lambast AI as the destroyer of all things photography.
Has AI turned once good photographers into pathalogical liars, though?
Out of boredom, and suspicious of some photographers’ claims, I downloaded 20 images from flickr and instagram I suspected of having fake skies. In no case did the photographer mention sky replacements in the photographs’ descriptions. In fact, some made outlandish “directly from camera claims.”
Well, I ran all 20 through AI detection software, and 17 of 20 had used sky replacements to make a boring photograph look interesting.
I applaud the three honest photographers.
