The team is struggling because of bench depth due to injuries (and suspension), not a lack of talent. Come January, assuming everyone is healthy (asides from Steve-O and BC), guys like Laravia and Junior probably don’t see the court, and even an impactful role player like Jitty will have a tough time cracking the rotation. It’ll be easy to forget that we ever started 0-4.
A starting 5 of Ja, Bane, Smart, Jaren, and X can win games, and a second unit with Santi, Kennard, and Roddy can keep you in it. Want an upgrade at the wing or a new starting center? The organization has the assets to make a splash before the deadline. This season is far from over.
The Lakers started 0-5 last year and bounced a 51-win second seed in the first round, so a slow start doesn’t mean you can’t still make a run. Y’all need to chill.
This stretch is tough, but I’ve made my peace with it. What’s really been clear is that when Ja Morant is on the court —or even just on the bench and can be a part of the camaraderie— the Grizzlies have all the swag. Without him, they have zero (especially with the added absence of Dillon Brooks).
That edge is missing and that’s the most difficult part to watch. It’s why they look so dramatically different to me right now. There’s no “I’m about to make you question your career choices” feeling going on. Contrary to what a lot of Grizzlies critics say, I don’t think their confidence was toxic. I think we might find what DB brought to it made it toxic rather than what Ja brings to it.
Anyway, 4 down, 21 more to go.
How quickly people forget we lost 5 in a row last year (part of an 8 loss in 9 games stretch) and still rocked in at the two seed. Just gotta get guys back and get some mojo going.
This is why im not worried, im just waiting it out first 25 games dont matter too much as long as we win atleast 50-60% of them. I’ve mainly been looking on the brightside in the sense of our defense is amazing and our hustle is good, ive also notice our board game has gotten better which is good. Although i wont lie it has been tough watching games like the denver and wizards one, those ones hurt…
