The average age of a console gamer is 31, and a pc gamer is 35. At least according to a quick google search. For some of you that might not know it yet, nostalgia in gaming is a huge factor. We’re essentially trying to recreate the same feelings we had playing games as children.

But children, on average, are not as into console and pc gaming as before. This is just by looking at the average ages listed above. I think mobile/tablet gaming is much bigger with the younger market.

As we older gamers continue to age, do you think we’ve reached a plateau in new, original games for consoles and PC? This is not to say that we won’t see some absolute bangers coming out of the indie market. I think that AAA gaming companies, in light of economic issues worldwide, will want to play it safe, and stick to known money makers. And the market for remakes and remasters is huge.

I think it can be equated to the big budget movie market as well. Most big budget films the past few years have all been part of established franchises. The studios seem weary to put their full force behind something original (again, there are always exceptions).

As long as gamers continue to buy remakes and remasters, in huge numbers, we’ll continue to see those types of games being made. I’m just silently waiting, with a smirk, to see which company will be the first to remake or remaster a remake or remaster. Like Last of Us Part 1 - Remake, or Resident Evil 4 Remake Remake.
