I’ve seen some pretty good D from Scoot, I thought, but I was surprised that he is 3rd on the team for D rating so far. 109 is not that great, but it’s a bit better than the league average of around 110. I know the stat is not a perfect measure and it has only been 4 games, but it may be a good sign for a rookie.

And the eye test does not lie, Jabari and Camara are tops. (Actually, those two are tops O Rating, too)

D Rating (10min+ per game)

Jabari 96.6

Camara 103.3

Scoot 109.1

Ayton 110.1

Shaedon 111.9

I don’t really trust any defensive stats, but I’ve been pretty happy with what I’ve seen from Scoot on defense. He completes hard (sometimes too hard), and has been strong enough to fight guys like Paolo in the post on switches. Hopefully the team defense stuff comes along and he learns to defend with his feet/chest and not his hands.

Individual defensive rating isn’t a very useful stat - drtg is inherently lineup based and citing it with individual players ignores all context.

For instance Trae young had a better drtg than Grant last season when we know he’s objectively not a better defender.
