The trade deadline got me thinking about how complete our team is. After seeing some analysts claiming the Jaguars aren’t elite, I was wondering was basis they have for that. Thinking through our skill groups becaus and wondering about trades yesterday, there aren’t really any weaknesses:
QB: It’s Trevor. He is the franchise.
RB: ETN is arguably top 3 in the NFL right now. Tank hasn’t looked good, but we known from his days in Cleveland than Johnson is a serviceable backup and we still have Hasty, who was fine last year, behind him.
WR: Ridley hasn’t lived up to the hype yet. But between him, Kirk and Zay we still have one of the best WR trios in the league.
TE: Engram is playing better than any TE not names Kelce this year. And, while we can debate his merit as a 2nd round pick, Strange is making more plays every week.
OL: our weakest group on the offense and yet people are complaining that we’re going to have a good starter (whether Little or Cleveland) not getting playing time because we don’t have a position open for him. I’d argue Fortner is our only real “weakness” there, and he is still developing.
CB: Campbell and Williams. One of the best CB duos in the league. Herndon has stepped up at Nickel with improved help from LBs.
S: Cisco has been excellent this year. Jenkins has been solid.
LB (off ball): Oluokun is an All-Pro level player whether the rest of the league recognizes it or not. Devin Lloyd is living up to his potential this year.
Edge: career year for Josh Allen, 2nd in sacks right now. Walker is up for debate I suppose, but he’s getting pressure and playing excellent against the run. While you want more from a #1 pick, no one would be questioning his level of play if he were anyone else. Plus Smoot is back now to rotate in.
Interior DL: bottling up opponents’ run game. More pressure would be nice, but I don’t think you can really call it a weakness. There are many interior linemen who get consistent QB pressure.
Special teams: McMoney has been a weapon. Agnew looks great as always on returns. Our coverage has been pretty bad I would say, but I’m not sure if that is a personnel issue or coaching issue.
Top to bottom I don’t really see any glaring weakness and there are standouts at every level.
Tl;dr: I think there is a legitimate argument that the Jaguars are the most complete team in the NFL right now.
Oline and dline are pretty weak and that’s where you win championships. If you look at our sack numbers they are pretty low. Outside of Josh Allen we don’t get a lot of sacks. That’s really the only thing holding us back from being next level imo.
