I’m currently going through Alien: Isolation and I’m having a blast. However it’s not making me piss my pants as much as the DLC from Outer Wilds could do, on some parts. (Not gonna spoil anything since Outer Wilds progression is based purely on knowledge). Subnautica was also surprisingly terrifying. Having a nice swim can turn dark real quick, and it’s filled with suspension and ‘the unknown’.
So I was wondering which games unexpectedly freaked you out. I’d like to explore some more titles on this - especially if it like the above mentioned OW and Subnautica. Suspension is the real fear, as soon as you see the monster/alien/bad guy, that tension is gone.
Prob RE2 because MrX was scary asf and or Dead Space
I never liked jumpscares, I always liked horror movies that try to scare you with their ambience and psychology of the characters more. One of my favourite movies is BlairWitch Project (not the new one)
So in that sense, The Forrest was absolutely fantastic.
I spent most of that game in a cupboard.
F.E.A.R. fuck Alma. The short scene where the camera is on the ground while she’s slowly walking towards you, jittering nearer and farther until all of a sudden she does a fast creepy crawl at the camera is forever engrained in my brain
I’m playing Alan wake 2 rn, that one is pretty scary
