To be honest we have 18 goals and 11 big chances, it means that we have scored goals off penalties and deflections and have been significantly luckier. This is not sustainable…. If I was Arteta I would be worried that we are lacking firepower in the striker department and our reliable creative players aren’t delivering as they used to. Odegaard and Saka haven’t been the force they were last season. In fact our players aren’t in top 10 in goals scored and assists.

Defensively we are solid now… but come January transfer season, he needs to add some power to the frontline.

This may sound unpopular and I am no way shitting on the manager or the team, just a stat that I am trying to wrap my head around…. Happy to be change my mind.

These are stats. Without context they dont mean much. What are/were these stats a year ago for us, for mancity, for brighton? Are they important?

Not to disagree with the main post here, since I mostly agree with OP, but good teams more often than not do score more than their Xg. That is usually a sign of a good team. Bad teams underperform. Lucky teams underperform but still manage to get points. I wouldn’t get to bent out of shape about the over performance. My bigger worry this season has been the style of play. In starting to see a return of the dreaded “crescent of death” around the opposition box, meaning we’re not converting possession into chances. For me, that’s the bigger red flag. If we’re not using our field tilt, it means we’re likely becoming a bit predictable.

Look at defense ie chances conceded, bud; best after City, level with Newcastle. Defense is the key to success, Liverpool, Spurs will suddenly fall behind ~10 points when he encounter a dry spell, due to their flimsy defense.

I dont think partey is a DM, neither is Rice.

I think they are both very good together and its not similar to playing 2 dms.

They are some of the best Central Midfielders we have had in a decade.
