I’m playing babylon against very juiced “late game AI” just so that I can’t be sloppy and still win. I need tips to optimize my gameplay but I gleaned some info after getting hands on experience After my first frw playthrough I came to some conclusions:
- if you’re going for science tall beats wide. You want to settle around 8 cities so you don’t disperse amenities. The happiness bonus is additive and saves your science yields. If possible grab the great scientist that gives amenity boosts, build kilwa and go for pingala+divine spark+ oracle. Try to get a production city where you run projects with ruhr Valley + a ton of mines and quarries. 2)don’t greed eurekas. you need two good commercial districts and two harbors, two industrial zones and two campuses to really start rolling. Maybe a preserve. Once your Iz are out you can sustain higher cost district costs 3)swordsmen and crossbow rush is viable but crossbowmen and MAA rush may be better if you can sustain it. Light cavalry is bait. a Knight is manratory for the eureka. Early war is good even if you get no tangible expansion benefit because you can farm promotions.
4)Spec ops rush can be easy or very hard depending on resource RNG. transitioning from swordsmen to advanced melee units is much more consistent
5)Culture+gold rules in a medieval rush. after feudalism you want mercenaries for the discounted upgrades. Reina 2 is awesome with the preserve. Magnus 3 is good income if you can trade the resources or saves an unlucky spawn with bad resource rng Pingala 2(culture) is a no brainer early on because there are a ton of key civics.
Bonus 6) secret societies ranked: -sanguine pact is broken OP for a modern melee rush even if you don’t cheese with vampires, because you almost don’t need units. a high tier vampire eats lower tier units and snowballs your tech lead while saving a lot of gold and resources because you upgrade only one or two other melees. -if you don’t want easy mode, hermetic order for scaling science victories with great people rush and owls if you have great suze bonuses you can get (kumasi, Valletta, Zanzibar, …)
