I held on to my Note9 for as long as I could, but I think in a few months I’ll switch to S24 Ultra. While I’m excited for the better camera, I’ll be missing some features like the heart rate sensor, simulated home button, microSD slot, iris scanner. But the thing I’ll miss the most is the 3.5 mm jack.
While in general I’m not against bluetooth headphones, I still have 3 good wired pairs of headphones and I’ll be using them with a 3.5 to USB-C adapter until they stop working, which might take a while. What worries me the most is the fact that I’m running a lot, with my phone in my pocket and listening to music via the headphones. And I don’t mean some light jogging, I’m running fast, my phone is jumping in my pocket and I’m worried that this might damage the USB-C port on the phone.
What was your experience when you switched to the phone without the jack? Did you get used to it easily or did you miss it?
By getting Bluetooth headphones even before ditching my 3.5mm phone. When i got a jackless phone I never even needed to use wired headphones in the first place.
I bought cheap bt earbuds for my S9 to try it out, upgraded to better ones and never used a wired one ever again. So it’s about 4 years now.
You can jog well without worries when you use bluetooth headphones. Get the bone conduction headphones so you can still here your environment. With a wired headphone. Its kind of a hassle to still have wires. You might accidentally pull your phone out of your pocket also. So I recommend use bluetooth headphones.
by using usb c headphone
My last phone had a 3.5 mm jack but still I never used it. Even then I used Tws earbuds.
Here’s my take…
First off, I’m an audiophile and a music producer and mixer. I also worked for around 10 years with home theater and music installations and tuning, so I know my audio for sure.
There are 5 types of music listening in my life.
-
In my studio, when I’m working on client mixes or my music. I have really expensive Genelecs and a treated room for that. Also, fantastic converters.
-
Background music for when I’m cooking, or hosting dinner parties etc. I use a Sonos system for that.
-
High-end and focused listening. This is where I sit in my chair, in front of my set of KEF stereo speakers and listen to an album from front to back on my record player.
-
Out and about music listening. This is with my phone and Bang & Olufsen bluetooth headphones. I don’t expect the best audio quality, and the stream I get from “lossless” with Apple Music is good enough for that. It’s not super focused listening, it’s almost like background listening, but on the go.
-
On the go high-end listening. This is for when I want to listen to music, in high quality. For example on an airplane or something like that. For this, I use a AudioQuest DragonFly Cobalt and my Bang & Olufsen headphones with a wire.
This way, I cover all my needs, with both Bluetooth headphones, and wired (with a USB-C DAC from AudioQuest.
So the bottom line, do I care if phones have a dedicated headphone jack? hell no.

Using a Samsung usb c to aux. I don’t need to charge it and playing music at the same time so
I haven’t crossed to the other side yet. As an audio engineer, I’m so used to testing mixers and sound devices with the phone. Can’t let go of my S10 yet.
I hated wired headphones. Got them caught on everything. Went through a variety of wireless headphones (lots of cheap knockoff airpods lol) before falling in love with Aftershokz. Now they’re the first thing I put on in the morning and the last thing off at night.
I bought a usb c to 3.5 mm jack adaptor. I enjoy being wired in when making calls. Truthly though, I used it for a few months and now use it in my laptop and just use my Bluetooth headset for my phone.
I kept my One Plus 6 from release until getting an s23 ultra in August, because it was one of the last flagships with a headphone jack. I listen to audible in the car over an hour a day and can’t connect audible via Bluetooth. I have had none of the issues I feared. I bought a 10 dollar dongle that splits charging and audio into usbc for power and a 3.5mm port for audio. Zero issues. I was worried for nothing and should have upgraded years ago. Now I’m just trying to decide if I pre-order the s24 ultra in January for maximum trade in discount.
It got even better, there are USB-C adapters with DAC chips inside, it boosts the audio quality
I never thought I would get used to not having a headphone jack but Bluetooth headphones really are more convenient
Man. The Note 9 was legit one of the greatest phones of all time.
If you wanted to make the best phone NOW, you’d just take the Note 9, update the camera, screen, chip etc., and (ironically) get RID of the thing that was supposed to be its big selling point: The curved edges.
BAM. You’ve just made the best phone ever.
Ive always had a bt headphone so its natural for me
