I’ve been on the we should have traded burns last year train. I like him but it’s not as if we had/have the pieces to compete. More picks could have helped the rebuild progress faster.

Point is he’s been ruled out for tomorrows game as well as a handful of other players. This game could show us just how much hes needed by the defense or it could show us how little an impact he has if the rush still plays well.

TLDR if the defense/ pash rush is horrible tomorrow against a bad bears team, then it shows how much help he is even off the stat sheet. And if the rush is great then maybe he’s not as impactful as we’d hope.

I too thought it was a smarter choice to trade Burns for 2 firsts. Especially if we knew we were doing a complete rebuild it makes more sense to have as many picks as possible so you have cheap good players while your QB is on their rookie contract. I think the biggest mistake our coaching staff is making is just importing their schemes from their previous jobs instead of choosing what fits our talent. I think that’s why a lot of our good players have seemingly regressed this year.
