Now that Apple has upgraded the built in DAC chip in all new Macs, does anyone plan on adding a Mac to their audiophile setup? I don’t know the chip manufacturer yet, but Apple Support indicates the DAC will support up to 96kHz files. I love my Cambridge Audio DAC, but I could see a Mac Mini replacing it in the future.

If you think the DAC in a Mac Mini is going to outclass a dedicated DAC engineered to a much higher budget by a well respected Hi-Fi audio manufacturer, you’re a fully paid up member of the Apple hype train.

I hope Apple is not applying their usual marketing strategy “we invented the DAC.”

I’ll be sticking with my Aries 2. I do stream from my Mac or iPhone to the Aries. USB is required for hires.

Personally, I prefer having dedicated audio components in my audio system.

Why would you do that when you can buy a cheap PC and a better DAC and still have money left to improve something else in your setup?
