Do you have to reset fault codes?

I have a Honda Civic 2005. Having trouble with power steering. My local mechanic told me I had a fault code of 22-01 - excessive change of vehicle speed sensor signal. I changed over the sensor but I still have the problem. My question is do you have to clear the fault to get the problem to go away or would it just work because the faulty sensor was replaced?
