Unlike last year we don’t get smoked when we shoot like shit from deep and barely lost. Still gotta gel with the new guys tbh not too worried. PP becoming a serviceable player (20 mpg average can’t score rn) would be a big boon.

Payton Pritchard will not be the starting PG by Christmas barring injury waves.

It wasn’t a popular opinion at the time but we really should have kicked the tires on Oubre in the offseason…

He’s not that good normally but he can be a real pest when he plays with a chip on his shoulder and he always plays us with an edge because of his 1-sided rivalry with Tatum.

It was worth signing him just to keep him off Eastern Conference teams.

PP is like the 7th biggest reason we lost tonight. JB needs to start playing like an All Star again. The fact we’re 5-2 with him averaging 21ppg on 53% TS this season is impressive. Not gonna even mention the complete lack of play-making and continuous bad decisions.

Our supermax star has been our 4th or 5th best player this season. Dude needs to step up

PP is having the worst possible shooting slump at the worst possible time. But it would be better to ride it out since trading his 4M contract and picks won’t get as much of an upgrade.

I don’t know man, I know we lost but it isn’t the end of the world. It’s better now than in march I feel like. We’re still on a 58 win pace lol

Starters had a +47.1 NetRtg in 15min last night, so the good news is that that group is still lighting shit up. +39 on the year, which would be 2nd to only the Nugs with Jackson in instead of Murray(, Nugs 5 starters haven’t been doing that great). I think this brings up an important point, part of why the Nugs were so amazing last year and the Warriors the year before, was because they both had a dominating starting lineup. We have that. What we don’t have is that 6th man to come in and keep that NetRtg high, (last year the Nugs had Bruce Brown and this year it’s Reggie Jackson). I think the hope was that it could be Horford, but that hasn’t worked in practice yet.

An interesting wrinkle from last night is that we didn’t play the Tatum/White + 3 bench guys lineup nor did we play the Tatum + 4 bench guys lineup. We instead elected to go with Tatum/Jrue + 3 bench guys and that lineup had a -4.0 NetRtg.

One thing that I want to keep an eye on is the White/PP/Hauser/KP quartet. Are most used and most positive non-Tatum lineups featured these 4 players last night. They played with either Brown or Jrue, but not both. This was the first game these 4 played together and were a +22.2 in 5 minutes.

We have to find ways to win the non-Tatum minutes and maybe we do that by keeping Tatum with the starters and finding someone else to help White lead the bench. KP would be a promising candidate, as Brown hasn’t been able to do it in the past and KP would be next in line.

Waking up seeing people freaking out

Opens dunksandthrees to see we are easily first in NET RTG, 1st in offense and 2nd in defense

Sometimes it’s good to zoom out

It’s actually impressive that the offense is still #1 in the league after facing the Wolves and Sixers on the road, both of whom are currently top 5 defenses.

It’s also interesting that dunks and 3’s would say that we’ve had the 7th hardest schedule so far and that 5 of our first 7 games have been on the road.

Lol you think the 22 win rockets was capable of having a winning streak of 4 games with having a 20+ pt differential even if it was 4 straight bottom feeders?

So there was a play where Maxey got a WIDE OPEN 3 off of a pass from Embiid. We helped off of Maxey and Jaylen was pretty far away to rotate in time. Who fucked that up? Everyone? It was pretty glaring to me, I want to give Jaylen the benefit of the doubt and say that it was lack of communication on defense. Strange to help off of Maxey in the first place. Don’t give Embiid an easy outlet, he will get rattled if the pass isn’t obvious

    Stat about road trips:

Celtics last season on the 3rd game of 3 game road trips: 1-4. The one game they won was their second night in Charlotte (so still only 2 cities on that road trip). They were terrible in this spot last year.

Their other road trips included: December when the team fell back to earth (Brooklyn, Miami, Golden State, etc.) the inexplicable March losses (Houston and Utah in March), and then a 4 game road trip after new years where they gave up 150 to OKC.

Despite their success in the playoffs, this team generally hasn’t been good when on the road for an extended amount of time.

It’s almost like they look ahead of themselves going back home and let go of the rope. The exact problem of digging themselves into a hole in the playoffs.

I’m not so shocked that after their 5th city in 10 nights, while Sixers have been in Philadelphia for the last 11 days, that we came out flat and settled and didn’t shoot well.

Next 3 games are home against Brooklyn, Toronto and New York. Toronto on a back to back so could be tricky with Horford probably resting but then get a rematch with Philadelphia. All these games should be winnable but 3/4 puts us at 8-3, exactly where we were last year at that point.

How the team responds and plays over the next few games and into the following road trip I think will be telling if they really have it or if if there’s still similar problems.

If they let go of the rope against Memphis and Charlotte (specifically because they’re bad teams and not threats) and just launch 3’s and don’t stay aggressive to put them away like they did with Washington and Indiana, I think that’s actually an indicator this team hasn’t figured it out and has a mentality issue.

I can’t sit here and say that at game 14 if they have some lazy defensive performance against Memphis or Charlotte because they’re looking ahead to Milwaukee that I’ll feel great about their habits or focus.

Even in losses, I want to see this team fighting, because last night’s 2nd and 3rd quarter were not it.
