I’m sure all of you have seen the vast amounts of posts regarding the patch notes good and bad. After letting things simmer down I’ve been thinking that there is not enough talk about hero hitboxes especially headshot hitboxes. My honest opinion is that headshots are way too easy to hit in ow2 and it drastically sways the way things are balanced. Not to mention the flawed ability cooldown nerfing they’ve been doing.

DPS Examples:

Bastion: While the complaints about his damage output are 100% valid but I would like to talk about his hitbox and armor which make him almost unkillable with support healing. Bastion when entering Assault form his head hitbox moves to the back of his body completely away from the enemy. Ironclad: Bastion’s passive ability. It takes 20% reduction damage while in Assault and Artillery configuration.

Mei: The reason why Mei is being used is not only because of her wall and ultimate but because she has 250 health. Mei can stay alive after being headshot by any character except Widow. Not only this but she can enter Cryo Freeze and heal back all of the damage done. Mei also has one of the smallest if not the smallest head hitbox in the game. When you look at Mei from behind her head hitbox is half covered by her collar.

Support Example:

Kiriko: The problem with Kiriko besides Suzu and Swift Step is her hitbox. Yes Kiriko would still be a pain if you increased her hitbox size but at least you’d be able to hit her more consistently. Since the head hitboxes are so generous Kiriko with her 2.5x headshot multiplier can go on the flank and see if she can get any picks. Her strafing animation is really wavy as well making it way harder to hit her.

Baptiste: Yeah I don’t think Bap really needs an explanation. Negates incoming damage with lamp and does serious dps while healing. Smaller hitbox and at the very least he has a weak point being his mobility being exo boots. He can 1v1 any DPS in the game easily.

Tank Examples:

Sigma: He’s just a bullet eater and lives off of bullets. Headshot? What the fuck is that? Let me introduce you to my barrier that I can place anywhere to stop poke incoming at head level. Bastion Assault form? Kinetic Grasp and a big fucking rock ty for the over health. His kit negates the hitbox problem by just negating all incoming damage.

Doom: Doom received an unwarranted nerf in my opinion and although every support cheered for this nerf I think it only exacerbated the main problem at hand. The reason Doomfist is played so much is because he’s virtually one of the only tanks that can play around tank counters with his mobility. Nerfing his wall stun is only playing into the current nerf and power/healing creep we have in the game currently when countering him as DPS/Support is very easy.

Conclusion: While the power creep is very high at the moment I think a better change than making cooldowns 15+ seconds is to rework the hitboxes. Rather than punishing players for using abilities we can make the effectiveness of those abilities less game impactful and therefore lowering the cooldowns.
