Pitchforks down, let’s just discuss this freely and see what we can come up with.
We all have seen it countless of times, I’m not totally certain I know what exactly it is, but I know exactly what it looks like
This core has a habit of fielding teams who look borderline unstoppable at times, like some games they’ll blow you out by 50, the ball is whizzing around the court, everyone is getting open shots, defense looks dominant, etc etc
Then the next game it’s like watching a group of 5 guys that just met each other an hour ago play unmotivated basketball.
Why do we think this happens? I personally struggle with the answer, I’m not sure if it’s Joe’s fault for not installing a consistent enough offense to create open shots on a regular basis or if it’s on the players and it’s their fault for losing focus too often and randomly not getting up for games
Tatum just finished his age 24 season.
Michael Jordan won his first championship at 27 or 28 (started the year at 27). LeBron James won his first championship at 27 or 28 (same thing as Jordan).
We’re doing fine. There have been only a few examples in NBA history of the best player on a championship team being 24 or younger. Tatum is learning to be that guy. Last playoffs I thought he was that guy because he took over every elimination game until he got hurt. I’m not very concerned personally. Going forward I think we have a better shot at multiple championships the next 10 years than any team. Will we realize it? Who knows but we’re going to get to watch a lot of important playoff games as long as the Jays are together.
