So I have a Steam Deck that has a 256GB SSD and a 1 TB Micro SD card. I’ve seen things online where people upgrade their SSD. It’s been a thing on my mind and I’ve been hesitant about even thinking about it for a few reasons.

  1. Stripping screws and/or breaking the Deck. I’ve stripped a screw on my pc, I don’t want to wreck my deck that I just got.

  2. Doubting and/or wondering if I even need it. I already filled up my SSD and some of my SD card. Most of them being single player story games and some being multiplayer online games.

  3. Buying the tools necessary. I need the whole iFixit kit, SSD, screwdrivers, and C USB drive to make the upgrade. I’m very limited with what I can buy online though.

Should I upgrade or am I good where I currently stand?

256GB is a pretty strong middle ground. If your SSD is running out of space, offloading games to the SD card is a good solution. Leave the internal space for shaders, compatibility folders, etc.

Think of it as a Windows drive. Great for OS stuff, but small. Don’t install stuff on it when you don’t have to.
