Before you say, “you don’t need aim or skill to play her…” hear me out.
I used to main Moira earlier on in my Overwatch playing and I still fall back on her sometimes. When I do, I’m reminded of how critical her contributions are to a team, and how much I love her abilities. But no matter how good I do with her she’s never appreciated, and people are so quick to discredit her. As soon as I stopped playing her as much my endorsement level went from teatering a 2 MAYBE a 3, and now it’s a steady 4, and this is despite me not doing as good with other characters statistically. I can definitely do well with them, but I haven’t broken any PRs that I set with Moira. I’m still learning and perfecting the other characters as I’ve only been playing for a few months, but I still find it so ironic how little respect good Moira’s get. An example of this is how many people say, “love you mercy” after a game when Mercy has actually only done a portion of the healing a Moira has PLUS the Moira will have a decent kill count whereas the Mercy may not have any??? I don’t get it, because Moira is actually such a crucial player when executed well. There’s not many other characters that can deal as much damage AND healing as her simultaneously. Or at least that I have seen.
Despite her not requiring a ton of precision in aiming, you definitely need skill to play her well. Does that skillset maybe look different than a hero that requires high aiming accuracy? Yes. But I don’t believe that is the sole characteristic that defines a skillful player. You know?
That being said, if the only reason players don’t like or respect her is because “you don’t have to aim” then why is that not true for other heroes that don’t require precision like D.Va, Junkrat, Mercy(healing), etc etc…???
So fill me in, where does the general dislike/disapproval of Moira come from?
A not insignificant number of players on this very subreddit even have convinced themselves any hero who isnt a hitscan sniper is automatically low skill.
