ill be honest, I was one of those that said luka would be good but never a superstar. I was thinking 17-19 points 7 assist and 5 rebounds but I certainly liked him more than trae young but I knew trae was the best option at #5. then hearing the announcement of a trade coming through and dallas getting Luka I felt excited but boy that excitement I felt was no where near what it should have been because from rookie season forwards its been nothing but magic.
IIRC WCC and Bamba were higher than Trae if we stuck with #5.
It’s why “Maybe Barnes+Bamba+DSJ ain’t that bad” was the prevailing vibe before the trade happened lol
I always thought considering dirk history that the mavs were going to try hard to acquire luka
I remember wanting Bamba lmfao
I remember that I wanted bagley or jaren. Lol JJJ is doing great, but still. Lol at me
I was excited about Luka because a lot of analysts had him as the best prospect. I tempered my expectations because his shooting percentages weren’t great, but was thrilled we got him and saw it as the best possible outcome. I also like JJJ and WCJ, and felt Trae would be fun, and thought it was laughable that Ayton was being taken #1.
We got lucky that suns gm was from phoenix. Any other gm would of gotten Luka but they took Ayton instead because he went to Arizona
Luka was #1 on all mock drafts the whole year
Then even luckier because vlade is a dumbass
You’re missing a few key details. The sacramento mavericks also:
- traded jaden hardy to dallas for 2 srp’s i think
- traded omax and richaun holmes for nothing.
The sacramento mavericks so far has been more fruitful than the new york mavericks.
I was mentally preparing for Mo Bamba lmao
I thought Orlando was gonna take Trae at 6 but was surprised when Atlanta took him
