He only shot 2 last night. That simply isn’t enough. The last 3 years he has been averaging 5 attempts a game. That isn’t enough for how good a shooter he is.
Look at Lebron. He is averaging 8 attempts a game. KD needs to get to about 8 also. And he is the far superior shooter than Lebron.
KD taking more 3’s will open up his scoring and the teams. He needs to adjust his game like Lebron did as he got older. Taking more 3’s will cause teams to close out harder. That will allow KD to attack close outs more aggressively and get more open mid rangers.
Now teams are playing KD to shoot mid range jumpers. They are not really closing out hard at KD at the 3 point line.
I’m glad Booker made the adjustment this year to take more 3’s. Its just the reality of the of game.
In the past KD could get away with shooting less 3s because he was more athletic and could get to his mid range spots easier. Now he is slower and defenders can stay in front of him much easier. But if KD becomes more of a 3 point threat then defenders would have to crowd him closer at the 4 point line. That would give KD an easier time of getting past his defender and getting to his midrange spots

I’ve watched close to 700 KD games since his days in Texas. Bottom line is at his declining athleticism he is having trouble getting to his midrange spots. Lebron made the adjustment to shoot more 3s. KD has to also to open up his midrange

Look at the last 2 playoffs against Boston and Denver. That is worrisome. Physical defenses can stop him if he just takes midrangers. He needs to take more 3s to keep the defense honest.
Right now teams can just guard against his midrange and have the advantage.
He was visibly irritated with the officiating. All these “bad shots” or “hard shots” he took aren’t really bad for him—refs were just allowing too much contact on shots (guys on both teams were complaining all game). Book is a better 3p shooter from what we’ve seen of them together, but KD is better in the mid range. I think they should keep it that way. KDs 3 ball is good enough as is IMO.
