Here is an imgur album with all the codes present from the ODB scanner as well as a hand-written note of codes recorded by a local mechanic. I went to Advance Auto Parts to use their ODB scanner for free this morning.
CONTEXT:
I’ve got a 2010 Mazda 3 (hatchback, 2.5 liter engine) with a check engine light on. I’m due for inspection before Oct ends. Brought it to a repair shop that’s certified to do inspections and he said that it would be $3-4k in repairs to get it through inspection. He claims the entire exhaust system and catalytic converter need to be replaced. Car runs fine outside of the check engine light/emissions issue.
My issue here is that it’s not worth putting that much money into this car. But I also don’t want to get a new car (used or otherwise), as I’m going to be inheriting my GF’s car in April (6 months away). Can I just drive this car until then and hope I don’t get pulled over? I don’t drive often (I work remotely) but I do run around town from time to time for errands. Feel like my best bet is to ride it until I get pulled over and eat the ticket, fail inspection, and then get myself a 30 day window to sell the thing or bring it to a junkyard. Unsure of consequences outside of the 100-200 fine I might get if I’m way passed inspection if I get pulled over. Any advice/alternatives appreciated.
