5-9k used to be the high to highest MMR from the previous years, but new players kept on coming and average players kept on improving. So what’s the comparison between the skillset of today’s MMR compared to last time? Is today’s 9k equivalent to 5k 6-7 years ago?

Its the opposite. 5k player in 2016 is like 3k today.
Dota is harder than it used to be and players are better on average.
Mmr is more inflated at higher mmrs and deflated at mid and low mmr brackets
