Quick properly gets slammed here and really embarrassed himself during the Dame Saga. But he was all we had for Blazers coverage in The Athletic. There has not been a single Blazer-centric article in it for weeks, other than team press releases on the Scoot and RWIII injuries.

When I subscribed, it was on the promise that I would get beat writer coverage on my teams - Blazers, SF Giants and 49ers. They do OK on the last two but suck on the Blazers. Did Quick leave or is this just the New York Times cutting costs? Pretty sure this wouldn’t happen to the Knicks or Nets.

Anybody know what’s up?

He was a mouthpiece for Neil’s administration and Quick’s writing has taken on bitter overtones since Cronin stepped into the GM position.

i feel like this is painting with a really broad brush. He had many, many articles critical of Olshey, and they only got on good terms with each other like a year or two before Olshey was fired. Yes, he’d often write pieces being excited about our team, but that doesn’t mean he was a mouthpiece, he was just excited about the team lol. The only time he was strongly in favour of Olshey was that one article after he got fired, and he was showing Olshey in a different light than most people know him in. I don’t think that is inherently a bad thing, although yes the article was clearly written with bias.

and with Cronin, I think he’s only had 1-2 bad pieces about him/his trades, and IIRC one was about the Norm trade which I still believe to be one of the worst trades I’ve ever seen.
