I’m a Detroiter/Lions fans. I love the Rams, and will forever support my boy Stafford. However, I didn’t pay all that much attention to the Rams before Stafford got there so the only thing I’d really know about Goff is how the media, and fans bashed him. Plus, that whole fiasco of everything the Rams said, and trading him.

Now that he’s in Detroit I obviously watch him all the time. Fans, and media praise the guy to no end. He gets so much hype. I don’t see it. I think he’s playing well, but I don’t think he’s a great QB at all. You all should see the sub. If I don’t crown the guy I get ripped to pieces.

So, I wanted to ask you guys. I don’t judge players on stats. I watch games. I judge what I see. Stats can be misleading. For instance, one of our rookies, Brian Branch got a pick 6 against Mahomes, but that wasn’t Mahomes fault. Stafford will throw a pass, and the WR won’t catch it. It’ll bobble in the air, and some defender will INT it. That’s not Stafford’s fault.

Goff’s stats look great, but are misleading. He had a few TD passes to wide open guys. For instance, our top WR S Brown caught a wide open pass for a TD. But when you watch it, St Brown twisted his body just to make that catch, and barely falls in for the TD. The ball was innacurate, and had too much air. We’re talking about a wide open pass with no one near him. Our rookie TE caught a wide open long TD pass from a trick play. The ball had so much air on it. The receivers make his stat sheet look good. Those are a few examples.

The Good: I think Goff has good pocket awareness, and good fundamentals. He knows when to throw the ball away. He manages an offense well. He is a very good system QB which is a good thing. I have no idea why thats bad.

The Bad: I see a very inaccurate passer. Very conservative. Very safe. Almost scared. Throws late, puts too much air, and has tunnel vision. I can’t count how many times he’ll leave a wide open guy hanging. It’s about that first read only. He can’t elevate anyones play. He doesn’t adjust. He runs the designed play well, but thats it. If the play doesn’t go perfectly, there is nothing.

We have two electric players. Jahmyr Gibbs, and Jameson Williams. Williams has special speed, but has problems with drops. I don’t see these players ever reaching their potential, or even working out because Goff doesn’t have the skill-set for big plays. He’s a dink, and dunk guy.

I can give an accurate opinion on Stafford because I’ve watched him his whole career. Stafford would turn these guys into superstars. So I wanted to know what you guys can tell me about Goff.

Thanks!

EDIT: Just want to say thanks to everyone who replied. Seems most of you agree with me for the most part. And I’m learning other things about him that you guys know from watching him over so many years. I’m glad people are being honest instead of being some crazed fan. It seems he’s still the same player he always was. Which is both good and bad.
