I feel like autofocus is so good. Are there times that you use manual focus? When I am looking through the view finder it almost seems impossible to actually manual focus a shot anyway.
Am I doing something wrong here? Just checking. Thank you.
I use manual focus when my lens doesn’t have the ability to auto focus.
I both bob back and forth while adjusting focus in both directions. Hopefully something comes out.
My most used lenses don’t have autofocus. Yes, autofocus is great but it’s also a tradeoff.
If you like to use fast lenses, autofocus adds a lot of size, weight and cost.i’m a beginner, so FYI. i use a Kodak PixPro AZ405.
so often i wish i had the ability to manually focus. it’s probably my single biggest frustration. i really like the zoom (it’s why i got the AZ405, 40x zoom seemed desireable), but i’m often trying to zoom on a single flower or leaf etc., and it just refuses to give me a nice detailed view of the subject. i want to wring it into focus so f’n bad.
When I’m shooting stop motions
Whenever I shoot with the 50/1.2 AI-S, because it doesn’t have AF.
There’s a button you can set when manually focusing that zooms in like 800x to help you see if you’re actually nailing the focus on your subject. After some practice it’s not too hard to toggle back and forth and snap the photo pretty quickly
The only occasion I focus manually is if I happen to be using my m42 manual focus lenses.
I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. Autofocus is usually good enough to trust these days. I never used MF on my a6400. Older cameras like my a7ii though, I’ll mf for low light cause the autofocus is ass
Kids these days 😂
Kidding.
Amateur photographer here, and my camera doesn’t have the best autofocus, so I let it try and I adjust manually.
The only time I use manual focus is for macro photography.
