I live on the west coast so I don’t get the games. I watch redzone and I’ll try to stream it in my phone if I can but I’m never singularly paying attention to only the Panthers game (it sucks, I know). I watched when we played on Monday night but had a girl over so I didn’t watch as closely as I did last night.
Has this really been the way that we’ve been making play calls and decisions all season? I’m by no means a play calling guru when it comes to football but last night was just… bad. Almost every drive I asked myself wtf they were doing. Has this been happening all season? Was it just last night? I know Reich handed the play calling off to the OC but did anything really change?
If Bryce had a stronger arm and better accuracy on longer throws, the playbook might open up. One stat line from his college days that stood out to me was his completion percentage on passes longer than 20 yards, which never averaged higher than 36.1% for a season. That’s an atrocious number. So yeah, fat chance of the playbook being opened up. They also probably discourage Bryce from running much for fear of injuring his slight frame. For 4th and inches, the QB sneak is likely out the question for the same reason.
All of the above begs the question: who at Panthers evaluated Bryce before the draft and thought it was a good idea to bet the farm on him?
