Valve never said they weren’t gonna update the steamdeck, if you read the actual quote all those articles mentioned it’s very specific. Valve employee Pierre-Loup Griffais said “It’s important to us that the Deck offers a fixed performance target for developers, and that the message to customers is simple, where every Deck can play the same games. As such, changing the performance level is not something we are taking lightly, and we only want to do so when there is a significant enough increase to be had. We also don’t want more performance to come at a significant cost to power efficiency and battery life. I don’t anticipate such a leap to be possible in the next couple of years, but we’re still closely monitoring innovations in architectures and fabrication processes to see where things are going there.” So, no one to my knowledge said they weren’t updating the deck, only that performance upgrades alone wouldn’t warrant an update for a few years. I’ve seen many misinformed people complaining and claiming valve was lying about this, I don’t agree. For anyone wondering the source of the quote was a verge article. If I’m mistaken please let me know, I’d like to see people’s opinions.

I bet there are some Deck owners who only bought 2 months ago and done some crazy mods, new transparent shell, hall effect sticks, upgraded SSD, quieter fan mod. Then all of a sudden there Deck they pimped out is no longer the best and the resale price ofa Deck dropped hard. Probably crying looking at that ugly screen turn on and regretting buying it.

Parasocial relationships between consumers and private corporations/their brands are so fucking bizarre, man.

Op is stepping in between two imaginary groups in an imaginary barfight that they imagine needs stepping-in on.
