I mean, its incredibly common. Creating a armor set, tool set, or anything would just be padding since it would need to be weak to make it balanced.
The redstone materials offer really useful stuff for redstoners.
And the new building blocks are really nice for some builds
It arguably has more uses than quartz, even if quartz does have one of the most important components you dont see a ton of people complaining about more uses for it.
Why are people still looking for it to be useful when it already is above some existing ores in use?

It’s alright. I really wished we could use it to build pyramid beacons. That part genuinely bothers me lol
It needed more use before the Snapshot, now it’s enough : few items like spyglass and lightning rod, decorations blocs and that Redstone lamp for redstoner
