I was in the market for either an M2C or Cayman 718 with my car at the time being a 128i. I test drove both a few times. I ended up going with the Cayman. I liked the absolute balance on the twisty backroads, the PASM suspension for both aggressive driving and comfort when turned off, the manual transmission was more satisfying than the BMW’s and of course I am not sure when in my life I will be able to get a 2 seater mid engine car again. The M2’s engine is unquestionably better, slightly more responsive and definitely more powerful. You just need to ask yourself what are you looking for? A light mid-engine sports car or a German muscle car.

People in the thread are saying a GTS 4.0 is the equivalent, technically yes power wise, but it’s obviously not the same price as the M2C. I would have liked the 4.0 but was not in my budget. If you do go with a 4-cylinder, I highly recommend going for T or a well optioned base to mimic the T, don’t bother getting the S, it is not worth the extra cost.

    Options to look for:

    1. PASM
    2. Sports chrono for resale value
    3. Sports exhaust for the sounds
    4. Premium package just to have some semblance of luxury

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Haven’t considered the T, will check it out
