I just bought a new house and seems like each room has a cat5e port and coax outlet but when I plug one port in a room into my modem and another port in a different room into my router, I don’t get a connection.

I assume I’d need to add a switch somewhere to get this working but I can’t figure out how. I think I found a patch panel where all the networking is set up but I only see a few disconnected wires.

It would be great if I can figure out how to get ethernet in each of my rooms but that seems like a lofty goal right now (especially if the ports are wired for POTS). Instead all I want is if I can set up my modem and router in one room and run it through the walls to my PC in a different room (ie, getting ethernet in a single room). If this isn’t possible with the current setup, what changes would I have to make? Is there any way to leverage the coax outlets instead?
