This question sounds really really dumb and I’m sure it is, but I’m trying to see if there’s a way to keep my number private while still being able to call or text people using my default calling and messaging apps. I’m a freelancer, which requires me to be in contact with strangers a lot of the time across various platforms. It would be much easier if I could just consolidate everything and have it all be under one app. I don’t have a business number or cell so I normally end up using various social platforms (whichever the client uses most) which feels both unprofessional and can cause issues if a party decides to delete messages and spoof agreements. I’d love to be able to have my clients message me in such a way that my personal number is not revealed but I’m still able to respond via messages

You would need a separate phone number for your business, it can cost as cheap as like 6$ per month, especially if you use a VoIP provider.

As an added bonus your personal and business records are stored separately.
