You know the airplane problem where planes come back with bullet holes in certain spots, like the wingtips and you have to figure out where to add extra body armor?
The logic behind the airplane problem is that you’re given a diagram of the holes in all the airplanes that came back, and tasked with finding how to increase safety. The point is that because these planes returned, they don’t need body armor in the places where they have holes, they need it in the place they don’t, because planes with holes in those areas did not come back.
The ping changes (and arguably a lot of recent communication changes) fall into the same problem. There is one major reason for this.
The people who fill out surveys are people that CAME BACK. Sure being spam pinged by your B3 midlander sucks, but that’s not going to stop me from playing. I will return to play league in the future.
But what about the players who don’t return to play league? I can almost guarantee they do not fill out surveys because they do not care about the game. Between people running it down, first timing, bots, smiting your cannon when it was CLEARLY yours etc., the problems that stop people from playing league, don’t get solved because of survivorship bias.
I know I’m kicking a dead horse but, I wanted to add my thoughts on the matter
This is not survivorship bias it’s sampling bias.
