My 2013 Toyota RAV4 gives ~16 mpg on highway. Maybe it’s because it’s old. Maybe it’s because it has 145,000 mi on it.

I looked it up online and it’s supposed to at least give 22 mpg city/29 mpg hwy.

I bought this car used in 2021 and it’s had a rebuilt transmission. It has always given small mpg. It has a hard time going uphill.

I drive pretty conservatively. I don’t floor it.

Is this normal? Can I do anything to improve this?

I would start by pulling one spark plug, see if it’s black from unburned gas.
