Hey guys, I’ve got a batch 9 7640u DIY order
I’m a computer engineering student, hoping to be able to run a bunch of containers with an embedded hardware/firmware career path. CAD prices are roughly as follows. I can probably deal with 32GB but I do tend to like having 10 datasheets and a bunch of tabs open.
32GB CL46 - $137 32GB CL40 - $165 64GB CL46 - $237 64GB CL40 - $290
Where do you guys see the best value here?
Even for a bunch of tabs and programs opened, you shouldn’t run into problems with 32GB. Except if you really need it of course (you would probably know this already though, if it was limiting you).
Do you intend to game a bit on it? Because if so, I would recommend the CL40 RAM. If not, you probably are fine with CL46 because it is cheaper.
If you aren’t sure about the capacity you could look up guides for your programs and use cases.
I suggest to buy a single 32 like I will, and test if you’ll ever max them. But seeing no virtualizazion 32 are usually enough
Sorry to hijack, but I just got word my AMD Framework 13 is shipping out as well. Batch 5, Ryzen 7 7840U.
Is this kit decent?

It’s a Crucial ddr5 kit at 5600mhz. 2 x 16gb. The only kit they offer at that speed and size. I’ve always been partial to Crucial memory.
64gb CL40 is 255CAD on amazon.
I’ll be using my Framework for VMs mostly. 100% certain I won’t be gaming with it. I’ll be saving a few box going with the CL46. The bottleneck will never be the RAM in my use-case.
