I’ve been thinking about for a lil while now, and outside of the really bad third round picks, this Class have overall been pretty solid for us. No need to talk about Darrisaw since we all know he’s one of the best players at his position rn, but really Cam Bynum and Josh Matellus really stepping up and finding a big role here this season. Cam Bynum had a nice rookie season, but a rather disappointing sophomore (mainly from not being used to playing in a Fangio Scheme). Now that we went back to a more aggressive defense he’s been doing great under Flores’s scheme. As for Matellus, he showed last season that he should get more snaps on the defense, and now Flores got him playing like a Swiss Army Knife out there with all the different alignments he’s in on the field. Overall if you can get a All-Pro caliber player and have 2 Day Three picks be big contributors for your team, then I think that’s a successful overall draft imo. Good job Rick (well outside of…you know) for the last draft class you had on the team!
Darrisaw, Bynum, Kene and Metellus are the only ones still left from that class. A majority of those guys didn’t even make it to year 2. Rick was incredibly lucky to trade back and have Darrisaw fall into our laps. To his credit, he also had a great track record with safeties but when you have 11 picks and only hit on 2 of them I wouldn’t call that a success.
