Hello, guys.
In the organization (college), we’ve concluded that managing Cisco ISR4321 is too complex, so we’ve decided to use a pfSense-based server as the central router. I found a server based on i3-520 online, planning to add 8GB DDR3 1333 memory, install an SSD (considering replacing i3 with x3440), and add a 2xSPF+ network card.
The question arises: is this configuration sufficient to support our network infrastructure?
Our network is divided into segments, connected via 10Gbps optical fiber. We have three internet providers, use about 20 VLANs (surveillance, servers, classrooms, departments, access points). The total number of clients (including Wi-Fi clients) is around 250, with about 150 virtual machines. Up to 200 devices can operate simultaneously. Two other campuses are connected via WireGuard.
Is the performance of this server sufficient to handle this network?
