In fact, a point can be made that he’s been bad since the very start of his professional career. The inability to cover even the simplest routes and his skill to consistently get burned game after game has been impressive. His only INT so far in his career was on a terrible throw by Ridder. In the meantime, he has cost us countless penalties.
Last night he was being burned by DK on what looked like the same route over and over. Even if we give him a pass on that PI call on 4th down, on the final drive alone he couldn’t defend Metcalf running the same slant/post, and even after he stopped it one play, he managed to lose him three times on the same concept.
Also, he 100% had a PI on the 2pt conversion against the Broncos. The only reason we are ok with it was because we got shafted the same way last year vs the Giants.
I don’t know how ready Quan Martin is but at this point I’s rather see him or Forbes or even Danny Johnson than BSJ.
There are some advanced metrics like PFF which grade him pretty highly. I don’t live and die by those things but I think its worth noting.
What I will grant you is IMO he did get away with PI calls earlier in the season. Not just Broncos but a couple other games as well. Its his nature, he is a handsy corner, he plays physical. It was just a matter of time that was going to come back to bite them.
I don’t think he has played as poorly as you have presented. But at the same time, has he played well enough to be considered above reproach? No way, his head will be on the chopping block at the end of the season like most of the other starters.
