I know, I know. It’s not mechanical. It’s not expensive. It’s not a prestigious brand.

So what?

I wanted the following things in a watch:

  • ~40mm steel case
  • Leather strap
  • Roman numerals
  • A simple classy dial
  • No date
  • Preferably one that didn’t say “QUARTZ” across half the damn dial in some sinfully ugly typeface.

I asked for recommendations to fit my criteria in the sub-$1000 price range and was offered some great suggestions. But not one watch I found had all these things.

I was about to compromise and buy an $1100 watch that I wasn’t head over heels in love with when I decided to look at some lower level options just to make sure I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. To my surprise, I found this Invicta and got absolutely everything I wanted! And the best part is that it was $150 on clearance for under $40. I’m beyond tickled with it.

I love watches and I have every intention of getting into some higher end stuff, but I’m not afraid to rock something affordable if it’s perfect in my eyes.

In my opinion, this watch is classy enough that it could be worn in a dressy situation, but plain enough to go just fine with a hoodie or a tshirt. It’s comfortable, and cheap enough that if I break it or lose it, I won’t be devastated financially.

I’ve had it a couple weeks now and I’m really happy with it.

God bless Invicta for making some of the ugliest watches known to man so we can pick from the rest of their collection for dirt cheap. I picked up a 9937 for 220 usd. That’s basically the same price as the sellita movement in it. Invicta fucks.

I would’ve recommended a number of Seikos / Citizens / Tissots that fit your criteria but never would’ve t thought to look at Invicta. Watch looks great! Love the lugs, almost reminiscent of Ming, or even potentially the classic “horn” lugs of old vacherons and such.
