I remember the old dev team, when asked why archives wasn’t available year round, said it’s because there wasn’t enough depth to keep people playing all year. The invasion missions proved this point, as the player population seems to be dead for those. So, maybe the future missions will be free seasonal content? Basically going back to the Archives system (btw would be nice to have the archives missions in ow2 at some point). I guess it all depends on how much $ the invasion missions made.
