I’ve been looking into purchasing a game streaming device like a Chromecast or Shield so I can stream games from my PC to the TV. Wifi would not be feasible for this use so I would have to use ethernet. But I don’t want to run an ethernet cable along my whole apartment, and I have noticed that there are ethernet ports on the walls close to the TV and the PC in my room which are currently unused. Is there a way to connect two devices via ethernet, but instead of running a long cable between the two directly, I can connect each device to an unused ethernet port in the apartment and it would work like they were connected directly?

So my modem/router would be connected to the ethernet port in my living room (I could just connect the streaming box directly to the router since it’s in the same room), then for my PC I would connect it to the gigabit switch and connect that switch to the ethernet port in my room, and this will result in the switch and the modem being directly connected even though they’re in different rooms?
