Not hating on Marcus Smart. It’s just that the Celtics got the best player in the deal in Porzingis, who had 30 pts, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks on their opener against NYK. We on the other hand do get Smart but for Tyus and 2 FRPs. I know it’s still early to fully judge and hindsight is 20-20, we might not even afford the 60 million, 2 year extension he got, but come on. You’d have expected them to have had a clear picture of Adams’ health during the offseason and to have fixed this mess at center. Really disappointed how our team has handled the Adams injury. We could’ve just dealt directly with Washington and got Porzingis instead.
We had to replace the defensive intensity that Dillon brought. Shoring up the front court depth is a separate issue. Smart was good last night, asking if we got fleeced a game in is ridiculous.
I’m feeling if we kept Kyle Anderson (who makes less than 10 mill per year) instead, we wouldn’t have been pressured to go for Smart. He may not be Smart, but he basically fills the same role, plays impactful defense and could play the point. Instead FO gambles on Jake and Roddy when we already had a project in Z and signs Konchar to a long-term contract. It’s just a chain of disastrous calls the FO made that lead us to this.
