Over Kyler Murray’s first 7 career starts (also a “notable” #1 overall pick that this graphic cherry picked away):
Record - 3-3-1
TD/INT - 7/4 (he also had 2 RTD and 1 FUM)
We should also remember that Murray joined a team that had one of the NFL’s worst ever rosters the season prior. He was also paired with a first-time HC who was still finding his way in the NFL.
#1s usually go to the worst team but Carolina did trade up.
This metric should have something to reflect teams prior year performance. I would love an O line metric of first year starts but hard to have that be one line.
Just a disclaimer - I’m not trying to dunk on Young (or the other quarterbacks). Just thought it was nice to point out how quickly Murray gave this franchise hope - something that a lot of #1 overall picks failed to do immediately
This post is a nice reminder of Murray’s immediate impact. Your wording about him being cherry picked away comes off as a complaint, but maybe that’s just because I’m used to seeing az sports subs full of “how come nobody is talking about us” complaints. It’s a good thing he’s not on this graphic considering they’re comparing other Rd1 picks with shitty starts (1 win or less)
It’s not a complaint in that sense but a complaint in the sense that I feel like they deliberately excluded him to fuel their narrative that recent #1 overall QBs have had tough starts
But I agree - the general sentiment is that it’s a good reminder of the hope that Murray brought (and still brings)
I remember this bullshit graphic and its notable bias, its more a puff piece to Panthers fans to show SOME first overall QBs dont get it right away.
Basically a “Hey buddy. You fucked up not taking Stroud, but it might be ok, maybe”.
