It appears the season is over according to many posts here…door is over there…this forum is for believers…
Man I was just thinking earlier that we should make an “overreaction thread” to get all the goofy hot takes in one place so we don’t have to have a post for every person that thinks the season is her after game one
The vibes are low now and they’re gonna be lower in all likelihood if we lose tomorrow to jokic and the nuggets.
Doesn’t mean the seasons over - being down 3 of your top 4 bigs is a bad bad recipe for facing Zion, Valanciunas, and jokic in the first 2 games. Honestly the fact that last nights game was as close as it was in spite of all the CLEAR areas of improvement for us is a bit of a silver lining lol.
I think everything’s gonna be fine and we’ll have a solid record in a few weeks, but there will be no shortage of chicken littles in the short term. May be the best for us “believers” to touch grass a bit and spend less time on this sub while vibes are like this lol.
We will absolutely lose tomorrow, I do think will get our first win against Washington at least.
Last night was bad, but not at all an indicator of the season. I went to the game. We missed a lot of layups and open threes, and Kennard went 0/5. That recipe won’t give you wins often. Looks were definitely there and defense looked solid (JAREN 5 BLOCKS) so I’m in no sense worried at all.
The issues I have are not from this one game. It’s from all our weaknesses from our defensive strategy carrying over with zero adjustments. Poor shooting nights will happen but this is what our defense is gonna look like for this season and that fucking blows when you have two DPOYs in the starting 5.
I think that anyone who is down on this season should watch Bane’s postgame interview. He made a lot of great points. The reality is that that Pelicans team has more or less been playing together for 3 years and knows each other well, while the Grizzlies lineups were playing together for the first time really. Learning where your teammates are comfortable picking their shots, the time it takes for them to learn what you like to do and where they like to move to when you do your thing, etc, etc… that all just takes time. Fandom isn’t known for patience but there’s really no other choice.
The positive side is that despite not have Ja, Adams, Clarke or Santi… despite shooting so dismally from beyond the arc or having people like X chucking up 5 threes (if you’re going to take the shot, you have to make them pay, otherwise you validated their decision to just let you shoot it out there) and having guys like Luke or Jake or Trip miss all theirs…
…despite that, it was a very close game in the end. A couple of made shots here, a few less turnovers there (looking at you, Wickit Smaht) and it’s a much different game. When you’re not down 10+ points most of the night, when you’re within striking distance, you just play differently.
Just one game of a long season. In a month, we’ll win games like that one.
This season is over
We have some of the worst fan in the nba. But we also have the best. Don’t let these crap fans get you down they are a bunch of babies who need to makes their own posts. I personally think 3 people should be banned from the sub.
I didn’t get to watch the game but what I gather from the boxscore:
- we turned them over and had more FGAs despite losing the rebounding battle.
- we won the Zion, Ingram and McCollum minutes.
- Everyone on the Pelicans shot 50%+ FG except Ingram. And they also shot 44% from 3PT range.
- Matt Ryan cooked us?
- we lacked fastbreak points
There seems to be some encouraging stuff in there and some pretty obvious kinks to work out (fastbreak in particular). Just sucks that we will likely start in an 0-2 hole now that we have the Nuggets coming into town. Losing 2 home games off the bat sucks. Upsetting the Nuggets would be a much needed boost for the team but I wouldn’t bet on it.
