I’m starting to see a trend of troubling posts here regarding CX-5 engine troubles. I have a 2021 CX-5 AWD carbon edition non-turbo with almost 60k miles that I still owe $18k on and could possibly sell it for that amount right now. I bought it new for $32k and have a 1.9% APR.

I wanted to share the issues that I’ve had with my CX-5 and hear issues other same year and model drivers have had and possibly decide to either sell it or not.

At 53k miles the engine drive belt snapped and left me stranded. Then at 56k miles the water pump belt snapped causing the vehicle to overheat and leave me stranded; coolant all over the engine. Both times I had to get it towed. Getting both belts replaced was fairly inexpensive at the dealer…about $250 each including labor.

Aside from those 2 issues, the only routine maintenance I do is oil change every 3500 miles, air filters, wipers and just replaced the tires for the first time at 60k miles.

Looking forward to hear issues other same model year owners have had. Thanks

I’d keep it, 2 belts at 60k miles isn’t bad. Any major defects for engine or transmission would’ve probably shown themselves by now.

I’d keep it for that interest rate alone unless you plan on taking advantage of the 0.9 incentive. Interest rates are insane right now.

Consider a transmission drain and fill sometime before 100k, don’t listen to that “lifetime fluid” bs.

I have 160k miles and I’ve never had an expensive repair that wasn’t my fault. Biggest repair - both tire rods.
