I bought a new 64 GB steam deck mid October. I tested it for about an hour and had no issues so I then upgraded to a 1 tb SSD. Since then, I have had roughly 10 crashes where the image freezes (background music keeps playing), the screen goes black, then the last frame when the game crashed reappears on screen. This has happened across about half a dozen games so it’s not software specific afaik.
It happened rarely, and typically after long play sessions or after waking the deck from sleep, so I thought it was just a software bug. However last night, I started up bloodstained: ritual of the night and the game did the same type of crash within 10 minutes which I thought was very strange.
A Google search later I found this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/YtbubKIlCM Sure enough, after running the command included and looking at the log file, I had the dreaded ERROR ring gfx_0.0.0 timeout error.
So my questions are twofold:
-
I know I should put the 64 GB SSD back in as I don’t want to lose that, but I’m not sure if the error ever happened while I had that drive in, so I feel like I have to run it until I get that error on the original drive so it’s there for Valve to see. Am I overthinking it or does this make sense?

When I do eventually get the replaced steam deck Will I be able to just stick my 1 tb SSD and SD card in and call it a day or will I have to wipe them cuz it’s a different unit?
