Overwatch 2 had two primary ethos’ that were a part of their design.
- Damage role heroes specifically, as a whole, recevied significant reductions to their CC. Hack had its duration cut by 3/4 of its original duration. Flashbnag was removed entirely (it did eventually gain SOME CC back, more on that below). Mei only slows you now. Etc. All DPS heroes who had any CC had it very seriously reduced down.
- HARD CC effects, like stuns, were removed entirely from most non-tank heroes (Mei’s freeze is just a slow, Cassidy’s flashbang is a slow/status, etc). The remaining Hard CCs are either heavy skillshots like Sleep Dart, Ultimate only like Shield Bash or Blizzard, or exclusively reserved for Tank heroes.
Additionally, Overwatch has also been moving far away from one shot kill potential of heroes.
With these three processes in mind: do people who clamor for a DPS Doomfist realize he wouldn’t be the way he was in one?
A Damage hero would never be designed with 3 separate CC abilities, and certainly not with a Stunlock-one shot kill combo in his kit. This is completely antithetical to how Overwatch 2 is designed.
I am not saying Overwatch 2 is perfect with how it handles CC creep (considering they are very much falling for the same trap as new heroes come), but the limit of HARD CC effects that remove all gameplay from heroes has remained mostly consistent- of the new heroes added since OW2 launched, not a single one so far has had a hard CC like a stun (unless you count stunning your own team with lifegrip… but thats a different discussion). So, I have to wonder if we got DPS Doom back, how many of you would even like what you got, considering it would require a complete and total rework from the ground up?
