Now that Stefanos is out, Hurkacz will step in his shoes and play a match vs Djokovic.

In green group, only 3 more matches will be played in RR => Djokovic vs Sinner, Sinner vs Rune, Djokovic vs Hurkacz.

The first one is Djokovic-Sinner.

  • If Djokovic wins against Sinner he is #1 in the group and the winner of Rune-Sinner match is #2.
  • If Djokovic loses against Sinner:
    • and if Sinner wins against Rune, Jannik is 3-0 and #1 in the group. Djokovic would be #2.
    • and if Rune wins against Sinner, then:
      • if Djokovic loses against Hurkacz, Rune will be #1 in the group, Sinner will be #2.
      • if Djokovic wins against Hurkacz, three of them will be 2-1 and shit gets complicated because then it’s decided by sets/games won and Rune’s win against Stefanos counts like a straight set win? Or not? Help me guys.

If 2 players are tied, head 2 head results are deciding.

If 3 players are tied, number of sets (games) won are deciding.

The most chaotic scenario would be if Sinner beats Djokovic in 2 and Rune beats Sinner in 3. In that case, Sinner would advance, and Djokovic would need a straight set win over Hurkacz to have a chance. In that case it would come down to % games won between Djokovic and Rune, which I have no idea how it would be calculated, but if Rune’s win over Tsitsipas were to count as 6-1 6-0 then it would basically be lights out for Djokovic, and Tsitsipas would finally have his 4D chess revenge after being dominated by Djokovic these last few years.
