I don’t get how it’s that surprising. As solid as he was for us, he still had the Lakers disaster in recent memory. It’s clear fit matters a lot for Russ to succeed at this age. A team would have given him more than the minimum, but not much more.

Plus he’ll have early bird rights at the end of the season so this is his best chance to secure a more long term contract of decent value.
