Hi, I bought a used car from a car shop and car sales place. Perfect for me 2017 Kia Sorento, great condition. I go to get it inspected, there’s an issue, the inspector has to get on the phone with KIA, there is an ECM VIN mismatch. KIA support does a bypass, I pass inspection but this will happen every year, and next year, or many years from now I may not pass inspection.
The place I bought the car from could not match the car VIN with ECM VIN, they said only a KIA Dealer can. I go to the dealer for 4 recalls and the ECM issue, they are unable to reset the VIN on the ECM.
They quote me:
replace ECM due to no unlock/program function. cannot change vin# in system $1704.39
What do I do!? The place I bought the car from agreed to pay the $150 for KIA Dealership diagnostic, haven’t replied about the ECM replacement yet.
ECM according to the VIN is from a 2018 KIA, mine is a 2017 KIA. Is this something I can push through myself if I get a diagnostic computer? Tired of dealing with this headache, very sad :(
Thanks for any and all replies! <3
