I have a 5900sq ft home with approx 4500sq ft on the first floor and the other 1400sq ft on the second floor that covers only the garage so they don’t overlap. I currently have fiber from Cox that they installed in the garage and connects to a Cat 5e cable leading to my office box where there are tons of cables leading throughout the house. The cable coming from the garage connects to a Linksys Velop WHW03bv1 router which is routed to a switch so the other nodes can be wired. So the Master node is in the office with one Child node at the midway point in the house and the other is upstairs. I have lots of smart home devices but they often disconnect and are unreliable. My system is old now and seems to be unstable. I need a stable setup and I’m looking for advice but I don’t want to spend a fortune. I have been looking into possibly using Opnsense with Ubiquiti APs. Thoughts?

I went Ubiquity about 6-8 years ago and I can honestly say it’s one of the best choices I’ve made. I started small with just a single AP and grew from there. Currently have 4 of their wired switches, three APs and a security gateway.

The hardware and features are great, but I really like how long they seem to support legacy equipment, I have 5 year old APs that still get security updates periodically.

    E. Also they support wireless meshing right out of the box, which can help simplify the process of extending your wifi signal to hard to reach places.
